Penguin
Mascot Boasts Cryo Characteristics
The penguin is generally thought of as the symbol of cryogenics because of its
relationship to the cold, but there is another reason. The bones of penguins
are solid, not hollow like other birds which makes them much stronger. Similarly,
the process of cryogenics increases the density of existing materials to make
them more solid and stronger.
Time Tested Process
The process of cryogenics is as old as the watch! Ages ago, Swiss watchmakers
stabilized the delicate components of their timepieces by storing them in mountain
caves. They left them there for three years or more, but wound up with superior
parts. Cryogenic treatment is one of the trade secrets of Swiss watch-making,
and one of the primary reasons that timepieces produced in that country have
a reputation for excellence.

Ten-Fold Wear Life Increases Found in Welding
Applications
Welcome
For Bill Denny of Nelson Manufacturing, the proof that cryogenics works was not
difficult to notice. When he updated his aluminum welding process with new zinc
alloyed z-trade tips from copper tips, he saw a mild improvement in their wear
life. But to further improve the process, he gave 300 Below's cryogenic tempering
service a try. He has noted a ten-fold increase with the treated tips!
Joint Venture with Ballistic Specialties Kicks off with a Bang!
Dean Greve of Cryo-Barrel and Rob Roberts from Angle Port (a division of Ballistic
Specialties) have teamed up to offer custom barrel packages. The two companies
are well known in their fields for taking both new and used firearms and improving
their performance. Peter Mathiesen of In Pursuit hunting show has asked them
to take an off the shelf Remington 700 -.270 and for less than $375 turn it into
a tack driver . The barrel has undergone the Cryo-Barrel Process and has had
a custom triggerjob and muzzle brake added by Ballistic Specialties. The rifle
will be featured during an Alabama deer hunt to be filmed on location at PA-KO
plantation Jan. 12-15, 2003 and televised during the fall of 2003.
As of press time there are 3 spots available to join Dean, Rob and Peter on this
fantastic hunt. This trip will include Deer (Rifle and Bow), Quail and Pheasant
hunting along with some 5 stand shooting at the 6,000 acre PA-KO Plantation in
Midway, Alabama.
